Employment Type:  Full-Time Regular

Number of in-office/on-site days: 5 days per week

Annual Salary Range: Exempt Band 4, MIN $93,100.00 - MED $109,550.00 - MAX $126,000.00

Placement in the salary range is determined by an assessment of knowledge, skills, experience and ability of the candidate to meet the key requirements of the job. In addition, our pay philosophy is to align with the median of the comparable market and to be considerate of internal equity comparisons.

What you'll be doing...

Reporting to the Manager, Maintenance Operations, the Daily Shift Manager is responsible for supervising the day-to-day repair, operation and maintenance activities of the Victoria Regional Transit System (VRTS) fleet. The incumbents oversee the safety and daily work activities of a large, unionized workforce to execute planned and reactive maintenance activities while ensuring enough buses are ready for operation on a day-to-day basis.



The position requires working a variety of shift schedules including days, evening, nights, and/or weekends. Shifts may be as follows:

  • Friday - Monday, 8:00am - 6:00pm 
  • Monday - Thursday, 6:00am - 4:30pm 
  • Monday - Thursday, 4:00pm - 2:30am

 

Shift placement may be at our Victoria or Langford Depots.  Please note that the shifts for this position are subject to change. You will be eligible for shift premiums for any weekend or evening shift worked.

 

What would make you an asset?

You are a proven team player with excellent conflict resolution skills who has demonstrated experience managing a team within a fast-paced environment. You are someone who is comfortable leading a team with minimal supervision beyond yourself. You will be comfortable with day-to-day decision making on behalf of the maintenance team as well as supporting the organization of all repairs within our fleet of buses. 

 

You are a Certified Tradesman or have education as a Maintenance Technician/Technologist with a keen understanding of maintenance/mechanical practices.

What you'll bring to the table...

We love lifelong Learners and recommend the following mix of education or certifications to be successful in conjunction with relevant experience:

 

  • Candidates from a Skilled Trades background, Maintenance Technician/Technologist with preference for those from a Heavy Duty (HD) or Commercial Transportation (CT) background
  • Related experience leading a team within a shop or technical mechanical environment
  • Thorough and advanced understanding of CVSE and NSC regulations and requirements
  • General understanding of facilities infrastructure and tooling
  • Working knowledge of Collective Agreements with experience supervising or managing a unionized workforce
  • Computer literate with specific knowledge of MS Office suite preferred (Excel, Word, Powerpoint)
  • Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) experience with JDE considered an asset
  • A proven team player who is able to work well in a multi-tasking, fast-paced, environment
