Canadian Urban Transit Association (CUTA) recognized BC Transit with two prestigious CUTA Awards at their annual conference in October.
One award was presented in the category of Safety and Security for the extraordinary multi-team effort in supporting communities during historic flooding and evacuations in November of 2021. This is an acknowledgement we share with our operating companies and local government partners in a number of systems including the Central Fraser Valley, Cowichan Valley, Merritt and Princeton. BC Transit’s Corporate Security team coordinated efforts with local governments and provincial agencies like Emergency Management BC. In the end, BC Transit and our partners supported the evacuation of more than 1,100 people from the most endangered communities.
The other honour we received was in the Marketing and Communications category for our Transit Operator and Worker Appreciation Day campaign this past spring. Along with our usual social media posts (using the hashtag #ThanksTransit), bus wraps and other materials, this year’s campaign included the launch of a new engagement page where riders could share their stories. Two videos were also produced, with one focused on the pivotal role handyDART services provide for customers, and the other telling the story of how our team helped find a young missing girl in Victoria.
