What you'll be doing...

Reporting to the Director, Regional Operations, the Commercial Manager oversees the Regional Transit Contract Management program for regional transit service across the Province. The role  provides expert advice, strategic support and leadership in contract development, financial analysis and the preparation of presentations for senior leadership and external partners. 

The Commercial Manager has strategic and provincial oversight of the majority of service hours delivered by BC Transit through contracted regional operating partners. Acting as a key liaison, this position collaborates with all departments interacting with BC Transit’s regional contracts. 

This role leads the Regional Operations Team’s three -year budget process, including the review and consolidation of rolling budget requests for all operating contracts. 

The Commercial Manager works closely with BC Transit’s Regional Operations Managers and  internal departments to identify and address contractual performance deficits. By applying industry best practices, the role provides direction on performance improvement and risk mitigations. Additionally, this position supports the Director, Regional Operations in developing, managing, and monitoring strategic departmental initiatives, regional contract strategies and operational plans.

What you'll bring to the table...

We value lifelong learners and have found that a mix of any of the following credentials have set people up for success in this role in the past: 

• Experience in operations and/or contract management
• Experience with public transit operations, particularly performance management and key cost drivers within a complex unionized environment 
• Familiarity with various procurement methods
• Strong financial acumen, including budget oversight and rate negotiations
