Are we right for you...
Do you bring together deep financial modelling expertise and the technical skill to turn complex, multi‑year assumptions into clear, defensible insights for senior decision‑makers?
Have you built scenario models that don’t live in spreadsheets alone — models that are structured, transparent, scalable, and visualized through Power BI dashboards that executives, boards, and external stakeholders actually trust?
If you enjoy being the person who translates funding policy, capital plans, and operational pressures into rigorous long‑term financial scenarios, this role may be the next step in your career.
In this role you will be asked to...
Be the organization’s subject matter expert in long‑term financial scenario modelling.
You will lead the development and ongoing maintenance of BC Transit’s long‑range financial models, assessing operating and capital funding requirements under a wide range of financial, policy, and service assumptions. These models inform decisions at the executive, Board, provincial, and local government levels, and must withstand detailed scrutiny.
You will design and evolve Power BI dashboards and analytical outputs that translate highly technical modelling results into intuitive, decision‑ready insights. This includes KPI forecasting aligned to BC Transit’s Strategic Plan and scenario‑based reporting that clearly communicates risk, sensitivity, and trade‑offs.
You’ll analyze the financial impacts of major strategic initiatives — including the Low Carbon Fleet Program, long‑term capital planning, Transit Future plans, and CleanBC targets — and clearly articulate what different futures mean for funding partners, affordability, and financial sustainability.
This role requires someone who is comfortable challenging assumptions, running sensitivity analyses, and structuring models so they remain robust as inputs, policy directions, and economic conditions change.
In this role you will not be asked to...
- Perform routine transactional accounting or operational finance tasks
- Maintain static forecasts with fixed assumptions
- Act solely as a report compiler without analytical ownership
This is a modelling, analysis, and decision‑support role, not a reporting‑only function.
What you might love about this role...
- Build the models that shape strategy: Your work directly informs long‑term funding negotiations, capital planning, and service delivery decisions across the province.
- Technical ownership: You’ll design and continuously improve complex financial models and Power BI tools that are relied on at the highest levels of the organization.
- Visibility and influence: Your analysis will be used by senior leadership, the Board of Directors, the Ministry of Transportation and Transit, and local government partners.
- Complex, real‑world modelling: You’ll work with imperfect data, evolving policies, and competing priorities — and turn them into coherent financial futures.
What might not resonate...
- High technical expectations: This role requires advanced modelling skills and strong Power BI capability. It may not be a fit for finance professionals focused primarily on narrative reporting or high‑level budgeting without deep analytical ownership.
- Public‑sector context: The work involves navigating legislated funding models, political considerations, and public accountability, which differs from private‑sector financial planning environments.
This role might not be for you if...
- You prefer short‑term forecasting over long‑range scenario planning
- You’re uncomfortable defending modelling assumptions to executive audiences
- You’d rather consume dashboards than design them
- You prefer established answers over exploring multiple plausible futures
What you'll bring to the table...
Some qualities and capabilities that will help you succeed:
- Advanced financial modelling: Proven experience building and maintaining multi‑year scenario models in a medium‑to‑large organization
- Power BI expertise: Strong ability to design dashboards, data models, and visual analytics that translate complex financial outputs into clear insights
- Strategic thinking: Ability to assess risk, test assumptions, and evaluate long‑term implications of policy, economic, and operational drivers
- Data fluency: Comfort working with large datasets, financial systems, and structured assumptions
- Professional credibility: Confident communicator who can explain complex financial scenarios to executives and non‑financial stakeholders
- Qualifications: CPA or CFA designation and a post‑secondary degree in Finance, Commerce, or a related field
