Employment Type:  Regular Full Time 

Number of in-office/on-site days: 5 days per week

Union: MOVEUP 

Monthly Salary Range: MoveUp Group 12, MIN $7,668.00 - MAX $9,199.00 is available through annual general wage/step increases.

Recruitment Range: MIN $7,668.00 – STEP 3 $8,515.

Placement in the salary range is determined by an assessment of knowledge, skills, experience and ability of the candidate to meet the key requirements of the job. In exceptional cases, candidates may be hired above the recruitment range, provided agreement is reached with the Union.

What you'll be doing...

Reporting to the Manager, Safety, the Occupational Health and Safety Officer is responsible for performing a variety of duties such as:

  • Develop, implement, and monitor OHS programs, policies, and procedures in compliance with WorkSafeBC regulations, ISO 45001 standards and BC Transit standards 
  • Conduct workplace inspections, hazard assessments, and incident investigations 
  • Provide guidance, training, and resources to employees and managers on safety best practices 
  • Assists in the prevention of accidents, injuries, and industrial disease through research, analysis of trends and provision of advice and informational materials. 
  • Lead safety meetings, toolbox talks, and employee training sessions. 
  • Collaborate with operations, maintenance, fleet, facilities and HR teams to address safety concerns. 
  • Collaborate with Project Management teams to ensure compliance with the Contractor’s Safety Program   
  • Collaborate with leadership and joint health & safety committees to drive continuous improvement 
  • Maintain accurate safety records and prepare reports for internal and regulatory purposes

What you'll bring to the table...

We value lifelong learners and have found that a mix of any of the following credentials have set people up for success in this role in the past:

  • Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety  
  • Holding or being eligible for the Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation would be an asset. 
  • Related experience in Occupational Health and Safety, preferably in transportation, public service, or industrial settings 
  • Strong knowledge of WorkSafeBC legislation, regulations and compliance requirements 
  • Knowledge and experience in Safety Management Systems.   
  • Knowledge in ISO 45001 standards would be an asset 
  • Certificate, diploma or degree in ergonomics or kinesiology would be an asset 
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills, including the ability to prepare clear written materials and deliver effective presentations 
  • Ability to build trust and influence positive safety behaviours across all levels of the organization 
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s license required
