Monthly Salary Range: MoveUp Group 12 with TMA, MIN $8,281.00 - MAX $9,935.00 is available through annual general wage/step increases.

Recruitment Range: MIN $8,281 – STEP 3 $9196.

Placement in the salary range is determined by an assessment of knowledge, skills, experience and ability of the candidate to meet the key requirements of the job. In exceptional cases, candidates may be hired above the recruitment range, provided agreement is reached with the Union.

We are expanding our IT Business Relationship team and are seeking a Senior Business Analyst to join us. This is an exciting opportunity where your work will guide technology investment decisions and ensure the right problems are being solved for the best added value.

In this role you will be asked to...

  • Lead research and discovery engagement with stakeholders across all levels and areas of the business.
  • Steer the refinement of initiative scope, strategic business requirements, benefit realization, and cost estimation for funded technology projects.
  • Analyze market research and business process maps to identify areas for improvement within the business.
  • Use your strategic thinking to contribute to the evolution of Business Relationship Management and IT Portfolio Management practices.
  • Lead workshops, ask critical questions about established processes, and create high-quality documents such as Discovery Reports and Market Research summaries.
  • Utilize a wide range of business analyst tools including but not limited to customer journey mapping, business process modelling, use cases and traceability matrix.
  • You should be proficient with the M365 suite and open to learning other tools such as the Microsoft Platform, SharePoint, and project management applications. 

In this role you will not be asked to...

  • Develop technology solutions; our goal is to focus on the problem statements and the needs.  

  • Delivering projects including developing test cases; we have a great team that is responsible for delivering projects, we will collaborate with them.

  • If you have a curious mindset and love diverse work, this role gives you a window into all of BC Transit’s ins and outs which equates to a wide variety of technology from on-board equipment to advanced financial planning analysis solutions.  

  • This role welcomes creativity (thinking outside of the box), although we are developing standards in our approach not all business clients or technology initiatives are the same, your creativity will be key to finding new ways to engage stakeholders and present technology information effectively. 

What might not resonate...

  • We operate within defined governance processes such as stage gates, procurement protocols, and capitalization rules. While these may appear bureaucratic, they’re essential for transparency, accountability, and public value. 

  • As this role defines technology initiatives and projects and as this is a new process, there will be a lot of unknowns. To enjoy this role, you must be comfortable moving forward with only 20 to 40 percent of the big picture understood. 

  • We are the discovery team, and our focus is on problem statement and strategic business requirements development, you will not be involved in selecting, developing, or implementing new solutions.

  • You don’t enjoy leading conversations and workshops.
  • You’re looking for a purely technical or hands-on technical role.
  • You wish to implement projects including testing strategy.
  • You require complete clarity before taking action.  

What you'll bring to the table...

  • Proven experience in business analysis, with a focus on questioning processes and business rules rather than solving problems using technology. 
  • Strong knowledge of technology and technology trends. 
  • Comfortable using a variety of tools, including the M365 suite, PM tools, and Portfolio tools. 
  • Experience leading workshops and creating high-quality documents. 
  • Ability to analyze market research and business process maps to drive improvements.
