What you'll be doing...

Guided by the organizational Vision of being the best transportation solution and mission of delivering transportation services residents can rely on, the Vice President, Information & Technology Services and Chief Information Officer (CIO) reports to the CEO and is accountable for establishing and executing BC Transit’s enterprise-wide IT strategy, while ensuring its alignment with the organization’s business strategy to deliver on this Mission and Vision.


As a member of the executive leadership team, the CIO participates in, and contributes to, the development of the overall enterprise business strategy, bringing a current knowledge and future vision of leveraging information and technology in business model design, business processes re-engineering and services development and deployment. This position has responsibility for the overall vision and strategy of integrating and leveraging technology solutions that meet current and future internal and external customer needs.  


The ideal candidate is a senior IT professional with demonstrated strategic agility, change and project management, and people leadership skills; who has a reputation for enabling technology solutions to meet the goals of a service driven organization while striving to enhancing security, diversity, inclusion and accessibility. An ability to motivate and inspire a team of professionals to higher levels of customer service and achievement while moving forward on strategic organization-wide initiatives will be key to this individual’s success. Working closely with the executive team, the CIO will understand how to enable the business to transform digitally while thinking innovatively about where the industry is headed. 


Technology is becoming central to BC Transit’s mission, both internally and with the public. With the ongoing electrification of the vehicles and increasing sophistication of GIS and fleet management systems, combined with expanding demands for mobile interactivity with the ridership that will include real time electronic payments and the associated PCI compliance and uptime requirements—there is a bold agenda looking forward.  


This is an outstanding opportunity for a visionary technology leader to transform a dynamic organization at a fundamental level. With the support of an engaged executive team, the CIO will create a technology strategy and associated roadmap to drive the organization’s mandate. The magnitude of these initiatives suggests that the CIO must possess refined change management skills in order to lead the IT team and the broader organization through transformation.
